Harvest 2025 Update

September 26th, 2025

Harvest season at DeLille began on August 27th, welcoming the first pick of the year into the winery: Sauvignon Blanc from Block 6 on Sagemoor’s Bacchus Vineyard. The 2025 growing season has been quite ideal from our winemaker Nick Bernstein’s point of view: “This year has been consistently warm, with few heat spikes,” said Nick, “with the late August warmth leading to an early and quick-paced start to harvest.” The team has been working quickly and carefully, processing lots and preparing each one for fermentation almost daily since the start of the season.

The fruit seems to be reveling in this warm, dry weather, ripening at a quicker, but ideal pace. “The quality of the fruit seems to be high, and we are very excited to see more vineyard blocks continue to come through over the coming weeks,” said Nick.  The team is thrilled with the weather conditions thus far, and they appear to be near perfect for the foreseeable future. If the forecast is accurate, harvest could be done quite early, giving our crew more time in the cellar with the 2025 fruit.

The First Vintage: Olsen Vineyard Sémillon

The First Vintage: Olsen Vineyard Sémillon

The 2025 vintage brings the first few tons of Sémillon from Olsen Vineyard in the DeLille winery. Planted specifically to continue to grow and enhance our Chaleur Blanc program, we are excited to see how the fruit from these young vines develops over the next few months. We had expected the first harvest to be in 2026, but our growing partners were pleasantly surprised to get the first fruit this season. Read more about our partnership with Olsen Vineyards, which started in 2023, on a previous blog.

Meet the 2025 Harvest Interns

This year, we are thrilled to welcome four interns who will help support our winemaking team during the fast-paced harvest season. The crew started at the beginning of August and played an essential role in preparing the winery to bring in hundreds of tons of fruit.

Nicole Bettinger

Nicole Bettinger

Nicole is originally from Virginia, but moved to Northern California in high school. She went on to graduate with a degree in Wine Business and Marketing from Sonoma State University. She has been living in Southern California and just recently moved to Washington. She enjoys outdoor activities, playing games, and going to concerts.

Mayra McCabe

Marya entered the wine industry in 2022 after years in tech and as a consultant. She joins DeLille for her fourth harvest after working for a family-owned winery in the Lake Chelan AVA for several seasons. Most recently, she worked a harvest for a custom crush organization earlier this year in the Marlborough region of New Zealand. Marya worked in the DeLille tasting room for a brief time in 2023, so she’s super familiar with the DeLille wines – and a huge fan! She and her husband, Bill, live in Seattle and have two kids living in California, charting their own paths in the world.

Sigrid Mellem

Sigrid Mellem

Sigrid is back for a second harvest with DeLille! As a young varietal (this literally being her second harvest), Sigrid values learning all she can from everyone and enjoys all parts of the work, including such activities as smelling barrels, transforming that which used to be dirty into something clean, swirling sumps of yeast with her arm, and, of course, tasting all the wines. Before deciding to be constantly soaked and covered in bruises, she sat at a desk for eight years working on a computer in the Marketing World.

Josh Shaw

Josh is a Washington native and came up working in the restaurant industry, where he forged his love of wine. After moving to Northern California (and many bottles later), his interest in wine and the winemaking process grew from curiosity to an active participant. After several wine classes, he decided it was time to get some practical experience and applied for a harvest internship. He worked two harvests for a custom crush facility in Sonoma County and fell in love with the hands-on exposure to the winemaking process. Now back home, he is excited to be part of DeLille’s harvest team and continue learning and gaining experience in the wine industry.
