2016 Doyenne
Red Mountain AVA
Deep purple in color, the 2016 Doyenne presents engaging aromas of tapenade, bacon, violets, exotic spice and a hint of mandarin orange. This substantial wine combines the depth of flavor of Syrah (60%) and the purity, focus and structure of Cabernet Sauvignon (40%). Fruit flavors ranging from dried cranberry to blackberry unite with savory cooperage notes of cocoa, nutmeg and caraway. Complex, appealing, and well-integrated in its youth, supported by Red Mountain (100%) tannins and a prolonged finish, this wine should continue to impress for a decade or more.

Dark red-ruby. A slightly raw peppery element accents aromas of blueberry, crushed cassis, pomegranate, licorice and herbs. Savory, intense and quite dry, with its fruit sweetness currently in the deep background. This suave, fine-grained, penetrating blend combines the structure of Cabernet Franc with the more hedonistic aromas of Syrah; it's already harmonious but clearly needs time in the bottle to expand. Finishes firmly tannic but not at all dry, with noteworthy energy.

Behind the Wine
2016 Doyenne
The city of Aix-en-Provence is where the first great French wine region was formed & the art of blending is steeped in history. Doyenne (meaning wise or senior) is a tribute to this ancient region & respected practice. Originally crafted by Executive Winemaker Chris Upchurch for his wedding, this blend of Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon is true to the Doyenne name and the region that inspired its creation.

Our 2016 Doyenne is sourced from some of the Red Mountain's most acclaimed vineyards, such as Grand Ciel, Ciel du Cheval, and Upchurch.
