Our 2022 Lazy River Pinot Noir is a masterful blend of both earthy and bright red fruit notes. Bing cherry, fresh strawberry, and hibiscus flower aromas waft from the glass, and on the first sip, these notes continue on the palate. The palate is lively with a vivid acidity, complemented by sweet and supple tannins. There is a notable beetroot flavor reminiscent of wines from the old world, accompanied by fresh herbs. This wine is seamless and quaffable in its youth, with beautiful layers of fruit and spice. This wine should be in its prime for the next 8+ years.

This vineyard is located in the Yamhill-Carlton appellation, with the vines planted on Jory soils. Aromas of steeped black tea, fresh flower, and strawberry lead to medium-bodied, piercingly pure red fruit flavors. It’s achingly beautiful. 13.0% alcohol. Natural cork.

2022 Lazy River Pinot Noir
The ambitious challenge in the cellar is to improve constantly through continuous experimentation with winemaking techniques, vineyard sources and wine styles. Our most contemporary enterprise, Pinot Noir, is frequently considered the grail of the winemaker’s world. Savagely difficult to cultivate in the vineyard and vinify in the cellar, the best efforts result in wines of purity, ethereal presence, and unparalleled sense of place.
Vineyards
Lazy River Vineyard lies on the steep south facing slope of Mt. Richmond in the Northwest Willamette Valley, three and one half miles from Yamhill, Oregon. Not visible from nearby roads, the vines appear almost magically after travelers complete the one mile drive through a neighbor’s pasture before finally arriving at the Lumpkin Family’s property. The guests’ sense of discovery continues as they walk the slopes and sample the wine. From the top of the hill one looks down to the mixed terrain, interlocking puzzle pieces of woods, rolling meadows, grape vines and ponds. The land is separated north from south by a meandering small river, which by August hardly moves.
Winemaking
Cold soaked 24 hours, fermented on skins 8-10 days. Barrel aged 14 months in barrel, 33% new French Oak.
