2022 Red Willow Malbec
Yakima Valley AVA
The Red Willow Malbec vines, twenty-two years after planting, are coming into their own this vintage, resulting in a wine that opens with prominent aromas of blackberry compote, sage, wild strawberry, and lilac. These notes continue onto the palate, enhanced by a punchy acidity and brambly fruits. The initially silky mouthfeel transforms with a finish of chalky tannins, which add some welcome structure and weight to the body of the wine. The interaction of lifted floral notes and berry fruit medley is undeniably delicious in this expression of a single block of Malbec that will satisfy on release or evolve in the cellar over 10+ years.

A bombastic, full-bodied, and highly perfumed red, the 2022 Red Willow Vineyard Malbec is a rare single-vineyard offering from the area. Textured and lengthy, it offers complex, full-bodied layers of cassis, raspberry, and blueberry that remain fresh in acidity through a long, supple finish. This could do well with further cellaring, through 2032.

Behind the Wine
2022 Red Willow Malbec
Our single-vineyard Malbec is crafted with fruit from one of our original and oldest partners, Red Willow Vineyard. Malbec, one of the five original Bordeaux-style blending varietals, famously thrives in many climates, showcasing characteristics unique to the place it is planted. The Malbec grapes grown on the Red Willow hillsides offer notes of leafy black fruits, blueberries and plum unique to the site, paired with plush, ripe tannins characteristic of Washington Malbec.
