The 2022 vintage of Red Willow Syrah shows outstanding typicity, perfectly representing the influence of long sunny days on the westernmost vineyard in Yakima Valley. Reminiscent of the rugged wines crafted in Northern Rhône, there is a sauvage medley of smoked meats and violets. Herbaceous elements of jasmine tea and tarragon complement the dark, intense notes of blackberry, dark plum, charcoal, and iodine. The core is densely wound and full-bodied with astringent tannins. The 2022 Red Willow Syrah smolders with a savory burst of rubbed sage and ashen stones, giving way to citrus-tinged blackberries and currants. It hovers across the palate, mineral and herbal in the best possible way, with depths of black fruit that drench the senses with youthful tension. Nuances of blood orange and exotic spice echo, leaving a licorice twang to resonate.

Nowhere on earth does the venerable Syrah grapevine feel more at home than in the arid and sun-drenched Yakima Valley of Washington State. Both the sandy loam soils and cool nights contribute to crafting a wine with incredible generosity of flavors and spices, qualities that elevate Syrah into an unparalleled category.
Vineyards
One of the oldest in Washington, Red Willow holds the distinction of pioneering Syrah for the region. Working with MW David Lake, who consulted for us in the winery’s formative years, Syrah was planted at the site in the 1970s.
Winemaking
Cold soaked 24 hours, fermented on skin 14-19 days, partial whole-cluster (14%), aged 20 months in 100% French oak (24% new). 72% 86 Block
