Our 2023 Grand Ciel Syrah has a tightly wound core of dark fruits with a prominent throughline of gravelly minerality. Notes of wild blackberry and plum are loosely framed by raspberry and huckleberry. A medley of lavender, hibiscus, and violet accents the bright fruit and whisper of toasty oak. The palate begins lightly, but quickly builds into a refined, juicy texture with peppery tannins that drive a seamless finish. This wine is a pure, fresh expression of our estate Syrah and will cellar beautifully for 12+ years.

Syrah is becoming a signature grape for Washington, and Red Mountain has a seat at the table. This vintage feels light, savory and supple, miles away from the powerhouse Syrahs of the Rocks District. It’s what used to be called a ‘food wine’ – and that’s a great wine to have, if you, like me, enjoy Syrah with your meals. Tight, precise, peppery and firm, this broadens out in mid-palate with brambly berry fruit and compact, tea-like tannins. Give this a good decanting, or cellar another half decade.

2023 Grand Ciel Syrah
Grand Ciel Syrah is a single vineyard, single varietal & single clone Syrah from our estate vineyard on Red Mountain. Every detail of our vineyard has been designed to produce the highest quality fruit from the unique climate & soil of this prestigious AVA known for ripe & structured fruit. Our rigorous selection process only permits a small portion of grapes to become part of Grand Ciel.
Winemaking
Stainless steel fermented, 14-16 days on skins, ~15% whole cluster. Barrel aged 18 months in French oak (42% new). Bottle aged 15 months prior to release.
