2023 Red Willow Syrah
Yakima Valley AVA
The 2023 Red Willow Syrah is dense and seductive, with whiffs of black currant, pluot, lavender flower and pipe tobacco kicking off the party. Bold and savory, each sip is packed full of rich charcuterie and black leaf tea flavors. The tannins are slightly chewy, but well integrated and refined on the backend. The finish is marked by a spicy note that pairs perfectly with the lusher mid-palate. In its youth, this wine benefits from a long decant and will cellar nicely for 12+ years.

The 2023 ‘Red Willow Vineyard’ Syrah comes from oldest vines of its kind in the state. It stands inky in the glass, offering creosote and brisket alongside milk chocolate and shades of black licorice. The palate is voluptuous, juicy and delicious with terrific volume and a glorious core of black fruits. Gorgeous now watch this evolve over the next ten years. Drink 2026-2036

Behind the Wine
2023 Red Willow Syrah
Nowhere on earth does the venerable Syrah grapevine feel more at home than in the arid and sun-drenched Yakima Valley of Washington State. Both the sandy loam soils and cool nights contribute to crafting a wine with incredible generosity of flavors and spices, qualities that elevate Syrah into an unparalleled category.
Vineyards
One of the oldest in Washington, Red Willow holds the distinction of pioneering Syrah for the region. Working with MW David Lake, who consulted for us in the winery’s formative years, Syrah was planted at the site in the 1970s.
Winemaking
Cold soaked 24 hours, fermented on skin 14-19 days. Partial whole-cluster, aged 20 months in 100% French oak (24% new). 50% 86 Block and first year working with the 91 Block at 23%.
