Josh Gately

Chef de cuisine

The Restaurant at DeLille kitchen and menu are led by Chef de Cuisine Josh Gately, in partnership with Head Chef Taylor Kinnebrew. A member of the DeLille kitchen team since the first few weeks of The Restaurant’s opening in 2021, Chef Gately’s dedication to locally sourced, scratch-made cuisine and innate curiosity into the how and why of cooking has helped establish its reputation as an award-winning destination for New American-style cuisine and exceptional wines.

Born in Ohio and raised in Washington and Vermont, Chef Gately’s original culinary influence was his grandmother; he grew up watching her cook Hungarian dishes in a kitchen that always smelled delicious (and often finds himself creating dishes that remind him of her). His professional journey began with a job at a local bagel shop, while studying Political Science and Spanish at the University of Vermont, Burlington. There, he discovered he enjoyed being in the kitchen and could put his political science background to good use by highlighting local businesses and producers in his work.

After a few years working in Burlington, Chef Gately moved back to Washington in 2016, and began his PNW career at the Lodge Sports Grill in Mill Creek. A dishwasher position quickly turned into Kitchen Manager role, when the opportunity arose and the chef saw potential in him. “It was a big jump in responsibilities after just eight months,” he says. “But I enjoyed the challenge and my five years there made me realize I was ready for more – a scratch kitchen environment with space for creativity.”

This led Chef Gately to The Restaurant at DeLille in 2021, joining the opening team just a few weeks after first service. He began as line cook, moving into a sous chef position within a few months. Chef Gately was promoted to Chef de Cuisine in the summer of 2025, working alongside Head Chef Kinnebrew to lead the kitchen and menu. He’s inspired by the challenge and cooperation of working alongside the cellar at DeLille: “Winemaker dinners are an exciting puzzle, finding the right pairings to showcase both sides of the equation of food and wine, and adapting to variation between vintages and varietals,” he says.

When he’s not in the kitchen, Chef Gately enjoys golf, reading and video games, in addition to spending time with his family and two dogs and cats. He is an avid hockey fan, having played for 16 years growing up he now loves having a home team to root for in the Kraken.
