2022 Marguerite Sauvignon Blanc
95 Points
Deep ripeness marks this 100% Sauvignon Blanc from the old vines of Sagemoor’s Block 5 in the Bacchus Vineyard, planted in 1972. The Marguerite is an elevation of Sauvignon Blanc, and Delille’s Chaleur Blanc, long one of Washington’s treasured white wines. It spends an additional year in a cigar-style, large oak, for a total of 18 months. Honeyed lemons, vanilla cream, and deep tones of rich white, sweet florals. The palate exhibits a phenolic viscosity, richly fruited, with notes of baked apple, macerated peaches, and a hint of citrus curd, complemented by a touch of roasted almond and cardamom-spiced pear. A delicious, hedonistic wine

The 2022 Marguerite opens with a savory array of dried apricots, wild herbs, white smoke and nuances of lemon sorbet. It is pure in style, with silken textures and admirable length, casting polished with pit fruits across the palate. This leaves a twang of green melon and candied lime as a pop of residual acidity maintains fantastic freshness

2021 Marguerite Sauvignon Blanc
94 Points
A truly outstanding Washington Sauvignon Blanc, the ‘Marguerite’ is named after the Marguerite daisy which is a symbol of patience. Stored in 75% new French oak, this wine was sourced from some of the oldest Sauvignon Blanc in the state. This is very rich and refined with a seamless texture. Bright cantaloupe and kiwi flavors combine with beautiful weight and fantastic tension. Finishing long with smoky and stony tones, this is a delicious, complex wine that is built to age. Drink 2024-2034

A model of refinement, the 2021 Marguerite Sauvignon Blanc blossoms in the glass with a spicy blend of dried flowers, sesame seeds, ground ginger and lime sorbet. Its silken textures flow across the palate, displaying admirable weight while maintaining freshness. Vividly ripe orchard and citrus tones swirl throughout. Enriching hints of lemon curd mix with mint a sensation of liquid stone. The 2021 finishes dramatically long with a suggestion of Jordan almonds that lingers on. Completely enjoyable today, this Sauvignon Blanc will also exceed in the cellar.

From vines planted in 1972, the 2021 Sauvignon Blanc Marguerite was matured for 18 months in 75% new French oak. The nose marries white orchard and green tropical fruit, graham cracker and tarragon with alluring flint and spicy tones. The medium-bodied palate is concentrated and expansive, its dynamic flavors balanced by fireworks of fresh acidity, and it has a long, nuanced finish.

2020 Marguerite Sauvignon Blanc
95 Points
Made from Sauvignon Blanc exclusively, the 2020 Marguerite opens with an oaky, fresh and juicy nose with gorgeous aromas of lemon pastry cream, sweet citrus, notes of cream soda and Meyer lemon. Medium to full-bodied, the wine is impressive, harmonious and impeccably weighted with a food-friendly finish that offers a delightfully textured, ripe blanket of oak and sweet citrus with lingering nuances of underripe peach on the aftertaste. This was 100% barrel fermented and aged for 18 months in 75% new oak, primarily 320-liter cigar-shaped barrels.

The preponderance of this wine comes from Sagemoor Block 5, planted in 1978. It’s made from 12-16 of the best barrels in each vintage and spends about 12 months more in barrel than the Chaleur Estate Blanc. It’s a beautiful wine showing the depth of US Sauvignon Blanc when matured in oak. Aromas of intense cut yellow peaches, honeyed ginger and rich lemongrass give over to a palate of rich grilled pineapple juiciness, honey-drizzled peach, whispers of cardamom and smoky, stony flint minerality. It is a wonderful wine to behold.

A spicy and serious sauvignon blanc with aromas of pears, nutmeg, praline, kiwi fruit and cedar. It’s full-bodied, with firm, phenolic layers and cedary, spice box elements. Focused and dense. Try in 2024.
