2012 Grand Ciel Syrah


There is a cornucopia of fruit aromas including currants, blackberries, plums, raspberries, cherries and orange blossoms. Intertwined with the fruit characters are white flowers, cracked black pepper, cardamom, cumin, chocolate mole and citrus oil – an amazing Syrah! In the mouth, all these complex fruit components share the profile with toasted pine nut notes as well as chocolate espresso, blood orange and tapenade characters. This vintage is showing great concentration yet all of these deep aromas and flavors flow together like one beautiful musical chord.

“A similar purple/ruby, semi-opaque color to the Signature Syrah, the 2012 Syrah Grand Ciel Vineyard has more minerality (no doubt due to coming from Red Mountain) to go with lots of blackberry, graphite, pepper and crushed violet notes. Like the Signature Syrah, it shows the vintage nicely with lots of concentration, integrated acidity and a big finish, where the wine’s structure becomes more apparent. It will benefit from short-term cellaring and have 10-15 years of overall longevity.”

Grand Ciel Syrah pairs very well with grilled meats, vegetables, wild game and stews, and chilis. Marbled cuts of beef stand up to Syrah – we recommend pairing with Grilled New York or Ribeye Steak.

Grand Ciel Syrah is a single vineyard, single varietal & single clone Syrah from our estate vineyard on Red Mountain. Every detail of our vineyard has been designed to produce the highest quality fruit from the unique climate & soil of this prestigious AVA known for ripe & structured fruit. Our rigorous selection process only permits a small portion of grapes to become part of Grand Ciel.
