2021 Kalita Vineyard Pinot Noir

The 2021 Kalita Vineyard embodies everything we love about Pinot Noir. Fresh raspberry, rose petal and cherry cola on the nose lead to an energetic, velvety palate. The fine tannins and brisk acidity harmoniously combine for a seamless palate that contains flavors of milk chocolate, cranberry and almond paste. The warm vintage shows itself with generous fruit, deep concentration of flavors and a lovely plush texture that extends into a long finish. A decant is advised in its youth or give this wine a chance to rest for 15+ years.

“The 2021 Pinot Noir Kalita Vineyard is slightly more rounded and softer, with medium-bodied aromas and flavors of wild strawberries, raspberries, spice, and spring flowers. Medium-bodied, supple, and seamless on the palate, it’s another beautiful wine from this team that will evolve for 7-8 years.” -Jeb Dunnuck

Mushroom Toast

Pinot Noir pairs particularly well with stews, wild mushrooms, and root vegetables. We recommend pairing with one of our favorite dishes at The Restaurant, the Mushroom Toast.

Behind the Wine

2021 Kalita Vineyard Pinot Noir

The ambitious challenge in the cellar is to improve constantly through continuous experimentation with winemaking techniques, vineyard sources and wine styles. Our most contemporary enterprise, Pinot Noir, is frequently considered the grail of the winemaker’s world. Savagely difficult to cultivate in the vineyard and vinify in the cellar, the best efforts result in wines of purity, ethereal presence, and unparalleled sense of place.

Vineyards

The source of the grapes for this cuvée, Kalita Vineyard, lies on ancient Willakenzie sedimentary soils. The site was planted in 2000, in a steep, south facing bowl at 400-800 feet in elevation. Clones 777 and 115, from three distinct blocks, were harvested on September 21, 2021.

Winemaking

The wine was made with partial whole cluster and 100% whole berry fermentation before pressing to French oak to age, and has been bottled unfined and unfiltered.
