2021 Lonesome Rock Ranch Pinot Noir

The 2021 Lonesome Rock Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir opens with a bold bouquet of hoisin, black cherry and rich earthy undertones. The silky palate is packed with flavors of fresh strawberry, red plum and cranberry with a subtle spiciness that makes this wine really sing in its youth. The initial nose hints at a wine that may be dense and brooding but in the mouth is delightfully fresh and elegant. The brisk acid and supple tannins effortlessly intertwine with the juicy fruit and savory layers, resulting in a balanced effort that will surely evolve immensely over the next 10+ years. Splendid Pinot Noir from the Lonesome Rock Ranch, just beyond the confines of the Yamhill Carlton AVA tucked into Oregon’s Coast Range. A blend of clones 667 and 777 with partial whole cluster fermentation and plenty of carbonic maceration to boot. It’s effusively fruity, with bright red and blue berries jumping out of the glass. The aromas are undoubtedly pretty and pleasing, with a squeeze of blood orange brightening a turned-earth note. The palate is fresh, delicate and brilliantly balanced. Sweet raspberries, mint leaves and mouthfuls of forest floor all play together nicely. – Clive Pursehouse, Decanter

Mushroom Toast

Pinot Noir pairs particularly well with stews, wild mushrooms, and root vegetables. We recommend pairing with one of our favorite dishes at The Restaurant, the Mushroom Toast.

Behind the Wine

2021 Lonesome Rock Ranch Pinot Noir

The ambitious challenge in the cellar is to improve constantly through continuous experimentation with winemaking techniques, vineyard sources and wine styles. Our most contemporary enterprise, Pinot Noir, is frequently considered the grail of the winemaker’s world. Savagely difficult to cultivate in the vineyard and vinify in the cellar, the best efforts result in wines of purity, ethereal presence, and unparalleled sense of place. The source of the grapes for this cuvée, Lonesome Rock Ranch Vineyard, has two clones of Pinot Noir, 667 and 777, planted in rocky Jory soil. The wine was made with partial whole cluster and 100% whole berry fermentation before pressing to French oak to age, and has been bottled unfined and unfiltered.
