2021 Lonesome Rock Ranch Pinot Noir

The 2021 Lonesome Rock Ranch Vineyard Pinot Noir opens with a bold bouquet of hoisin, black cherry and rich earthy undertones. The silky palate is packed with flavors of fresh strawberry, red plum and cranberry with a subtle spiciness that makes this wine really sing in its youth. The initial nose hints at a wine that may be dense and brooding but in the mouth is delightfully fresh and elegant. The brisk acid and supple tannins effortlessly intertwine with the juicy fruit and savory layers, resulting in a balanced effort that will surely evolve immensely over the next 10+ years. “I was also able to taste two Pinot Noirs from the team at DeLille, both from the Willamette Valley (although they’re labeled Oregon). The 2021 Pinot Noir Lonesome Rock Ranch Vineyard has a beautiful perfume of ripe cherries, mulberries, dried flowers, and underbrush. Medium-bodied, silky, and elegant, it’s clearly an outstanding Pinot Noir. This was 70% destemmed and, I believe, brought up in a mix of new and used barrels. I’d happily drink a bottle.” -Jeb Dunnuck

Mushroom Toast

Pinot Noir pairs particularly well with stews, wild mushrooms, and root vegetables. We recommend pairing with one of our favorite dishes at The Restaurant, the Mushroom Toast.

Behind the Wine

2021 Lonesome Rock Ranch Pinot Noir

The ambitious challenge in the cellar is to improve constantly through continuous experimentation with winemaking techniques, vineyard sources and wine styles. Our most contemporary enterprise, Pinot Noir, is frequently considered the grail of the winemaker’s world. Savagely difficult to cultivate in the vineyard and vinify in the cellar, the best efforts result in wines of purity, ethereal presence, and unparalleled sense of place. The source of the grapes for this cuvée, Lonesome Rock Ranch Vineyard, has two clones of Pinot Noir, 667 and 777, planted in rocky Jory soil. The wine was made with partial whole cluster and 100% whole berry fermentation before pressing to French oak to age, and has been bottled unfined and unfiltered.
