Celebrating International Women’s Day & Taste WA Wine Month

March 8th is International Women’s Day, and we’re raising a glass to all the women in winemaking who are making their mark and shaping the industry. We are grateful to have four amazing women on our winemaking team.

This March, in celebration of Women’s History Month and Taste Washington Wine Month, we asked our team how they got started in the industry and their favorite wine featured in our #TasteWA bundle.

How did you get your start in the wine industry?

“My love for math and science initially drew me to enology & viticulture, but the combination of science, creativity, and physically handcrafting a product that brings people joy is what keeps me loving my job.”

What’s your favorite wine in our Taste Washington Wine Bundle?

“Le Dessein. It’s our great interpretation of a GSM (Grenache, Syrah, Mourvèdre) blend. It has a lot of those classic characteristics – strawberry, cherry and a little bit of Syrah coming in with the savory characteristics to round it out. What’s fun about this wine is that we bottle it a little bit earlier in the year so we can release it a bit earlier before the holidays. It’s a great wine to pair with basically anything or just to have a glass with friends.”

How did you get your start in the wine industry?

“Like so many before me, I completely stumbled into the industry. My husband landed an internship with DeLille and started coming home from work happy and excited about his job, something I had never experienced before. Immediately jealous, I asked to tag along and luckily DeLille still needed help and hired me for the 2019 vintage. I haven’t looked back since.”

What’s your favorite wine in our Taste Washington Wine Bundle?

“Four Flags and Le Colosse. Our 2019 Four Flags is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from Red Mountain. It offers bright, vibrant fruit and is a delicious wine that will last for many years. Le Colosse is a 100% Merlot blend sourced from some of our favorite vineyards like Harrison Hill. It is a delicious wine. I love Merlot and think that Washington State has some of the best examples of Merlot you can find and this is no exception!”

How did you get your start in the wine industry?

“I was establishing myself in the hospitality industry and what makes every situation more hospitable? Wine! I began my studies as a Sommelier and my mentor suggested I try a harvest.  It was such a great experience that I shifted my course to production.”

What’s your favorite wine in our Taste Washington Wine Bundle?

“D2 and Minuit. D2 is sourced from many different vineyards – anywhere from Red Willow, Harrison Hill, Grand Ciel, Boushey and other top-tier vineyards. It’s a wonderful Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend. Our 2019 Minuit is 70% Malbec and 30% Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s sourced from the wonderful Red Willow Vineyard in the western Yakima Valley and the beautiful Quintessence Vineyard on Red Mountain.”

How did you get your start in the wine industry?

“I first got into the wine industry when I worked Harvest 2020 here at DeLille! Prior to that, I didn’t even know the wine industry was even an option for me, or that I would love it so much that I wanted to return. My second harvest was where things really cemented for me; not only did I feel more knowledgeable and at ease, but also I liked that I was consistently learning new things every day.”

What’s your favorite wine in our Taste Washington Wine Bundle?

“Doyenne. It’s our Syrah-dominant Syrah/Cabernet Sauvignon blend. It has tasting notes of black cherry and blueberry. Something special about this wine is that it was actually my first vintage.”
